It’s a been a hectic week at the CC office and although it hasn’t been smooth sailing all the way, we’re pleased with where it’s at, as we go into the weekend.
You may have noticed the site was down from around 5:30pm this afternoon (for 38 minutes). Sorry for the inconvenience. Sam has been working on a major update to the Search & Match area, which has drastically improved the speed of the search. This in turn has improved the overall speed of the whole site. He needed to take the site offline whilst making this change.
Here’s a rundown of additions and improvements we’ve made since the launch:
- Completely Re-factored search algorithms to speed up Search & Match
- Improved fraud matching system to more accurately catch and block scammers
- Upgraded database size and number of connections to better handle number of incoming requests
- Increased number of server connections (dynos) to improve page speeds and avoid timeout messages
- Increased maximum messages per day for full members to 30
- Enabled deleting of sent messages
- Improved asset caching and compression to load images and stylesheets faster
- Made ‘last logged in’ date more readable
We’ve also been working on a few fixes and corrections:
- Fixed odd characters appearing in mailbox messages
- Removed previously deleted messages from mailboxes
- Reinstated keyword search
- Restored hidden members lists
- Fixed blocking on chat
Thanks to everyone who wrote in with comments and suggestions. We have been listening to your feedback and we’ve started by making some immediate changes to the most important issues. We still have quite a few improvements which we’ll be making in the coming weeks. The new platform will allow us to introduce changes faster than the old site.
Thanks again for bearing with us, for all your positive comments and for being part of the Christian Connection community.

I really like the wave for me it is an ice-breaker.
Thank you
Every Blessing
Deborah
Hi Debroah, glad you like it! Thanks, Joff
Hi, just like to say thanks for your responses and for doing a very fine job of making the new site so cool! and easy to use too!
:@)
Matt
Thanks Matt, we really like the new site. It’s much easier for us to maintain and make future improvements.
Love
Conversation view. Guess it’s a must-have in this Facebook age. I did sometimes get a bit lost in the old system, keeping track of who said what.
Hate
The new “marketing” pics of couples cuddling. Reminds me of what I can’t have. I preferred the fish. It could be worse. You could have hearts everywhere.
Waves. Can I opt out of this? I don’t want to talk to someone who thinks I’m not worth the effort of typing a single word. I don’t want to send waves and I don’t want to receive them.
Hi Phil, thanks for the feedback. At the moment we don’t have plans to allow people to opt out of waves. This could get confusing for other members. Of course you can choose to not send waves if you wish. I agree an email is more personal.
Hi
really like the new site – what I didnt realise was If you make someone a favourite, they will automatically be notified – I would prefer if they werent or the waver be given the choice, to notify or not.
Also if you wave at someone I would like to be able to keep a record of their username.
Thanks
You can disable fans in your Account settings, this way other members don’t get an email. However you wont be able to see your own fans! You can see who you’ve waved at in your Sent Items
Thx for all your heard work. Excellent site. Luvin it.
Super new site that’s starting to bed in…. the main teething problem I’m facing is the thoughtless ‘waving’ that’s going on. Loads of irrelevant ‘waves’ filling up my inbox from people who simply haven’t bothered to read my profile.
Hi love the improvements you’ve made…but having one problem when looking at sent items in my mailbox it’s in mobile version and when i click on go to standard version it just sends me to the mebers area page. With the old sent items section in the mailbox you were able to see if and when someone had read your email, hope this is still possible. And one thing i don’t like is on the ‘who’s been viewing your profile’ page before you had a list of maybe 10 or so people who’d viewed but with the new site if someone has viewed my profile more than once it shows their name more than once, so if say i’ve had 10 people view but 1 person has looked 3 times i don’t see some of the other 9 people, find this quite annoying.
Liking the waves very much!
Good work, hope to see more improvements as time goes on!
Thanks Neil.
We’ll look into that issue with Sent items. What browser are you using?
The who’s viewing your profile page is still a work in progress, so it’s not yet perfect. It’s at the top of our list of things to look at!
Neil, we’ve fixed this now. It was a problem in Internet Explorer 8.
